National exam body

NEAEA & EAES — Ethiopia's National Examination Body

If you are studying for the ESSLCE or waiting on a Grade 12 result, the agency you are dealing with is NEAEA — now formally renamed EAES. Here is what they do, where to find them, and how to check your result.

What is NEAEA?

NEAEA — the National Educational Assessment and Examinations Agency — is the Ethiopian government body that administers national examinations, marks the papers, and publishes results. It operates under the Ministry of Education and is the authoritative source for every score on every official certificate Ethiopian students earn.

NEAEA vs EAES

The agency was renamed to the Educational Assessment and Examination Service (EAES) as part of a reorganization of how examinations are run. Day to day, the work is the same and the staff are largely the same. The two names refer to the same institution at different points in time:

  • NEAEA — the older brand. Still by far the more commonly searched name among students and parents.
  • EAES — the current legal name. The result portal and official communications now use this brand.

What exams does EAES administer?

  • Grade 6 Ministry Exam — end-of-cycle primary assessment.
  • Grade 8 Regional Exam — the end of the lower secondary cycle.
  • Grade 12 ESSLCE / EUEE — the matric exam that determines university placement.
  • University Exit Exam — taken by graduating undergraduate students at all public and private universities.

Where to find the official portals

Three URLs cover most of what students and parents need:

  • result.eaes.et — the official EAES result portal. Use your registration number and registered first name to look up your score.
  • examinfo.moe.gov.et — exam information, official timetables, and registration windows.
  • moe.gov.et — the Ministry of Education itself for policy-level announcements and university placement criteria.

Avoid third-party sites that claim to publish results before EAES does. Results are only valid from the official EAES portal.

About 45 days from exam to result

EAES typically needs around 45 days after the last exam day to mark papers and publish results. The official release date is announced through the Ministry of Education's Facebook page and major Ethiopian news outlets a few days before publication. Once results are out, university placement follows on its own published timeline.
